Galaxy Council Member of the Month
Member of the Month – Each month the Galaxy Community Council profiles one of its members. This month’s member is:
Bill Hick – If you want a good person for a busy job, find a busy person. There is a lot of truth in that statement. A classic example is Bill Hick. After 31 years with Massachusetts Mutual Insurance in which he held several key management positions, Bill Hick did not let retirement slow him down. Since 2010 Bill has worked as a volunteer at the Wing Memorial Hospital in Palmer, Massachusetts where he serves as an Emergency Room patient advocate and a technicians assistant. A resident of Wilbraham, Bill played a lead role in the construction of an additional nine holes at the Wilbraham Country Club. From the planning stage to its final completion, Bill was onsite up to ten hours a day ensuring that the addition went as planned. When the job was finished, Galaxy member Dave Canegallo invited Bill to join the Galaxy Council. Growing up in East Longmeadow, Bill watched B-52 and KC-135’s thundering over his home and so was interested in assisting the mission at Westover. After working his first Westover Family Day and observing the hard work Galaxy members put into their assignments, Bill knew he was with the right people. He was especially impressed by the strong management of Carol Patterson. “She knows how to manage” Bill said. Married for 46 years to the former Donna Auger and father of two children, Bill Hick is the type of person that makes the Galaxy Community Council the great organization that it is.
