September President’s Message
As the fourth quarter of 2016 approaches, we can look back at another successful year of supporting the men, women and mission of Westover Air Reserve Base. Our major effort this year was on a hot and humid August 6th Westover Family Day, when members of the Galaxy Community Council and other volunteers enabled about 3,000 Air Force reservists and family members to have a great day. We look forward to doing it again in 2017.
We can also look forward to 2016 year-end business and activities, the upcoming holidays and reflect on our accomplishments this year. Our fundraiser raffle, coordinated by director Bill Hick, is this year’s contribution to our 2018 air show. After our GCC team (Al Chwalek, Connie Foster and Bob Houldson) returns from the International Council of Air Shows convention in early December, we’ll begin planning for the air show. The guest speakers for our September, October and November meetings have been arranged. We’ll be asking for volunteers to help at the Air Force Children’s Party on December 10th. Last year’s GCC crew was greatly appreciated by the Air Force families. Our GCC Christmas party will be held on Tuesday, December 13th at the Castle of the Knights in Chicopee. It’s a great opportunity to meet Westover’s leadership and for all of us to socialize.
We have welcomed many new members, including many of our spouses who have been offered full GCC membership at reduced dues cost. Because the GCC much more than a social club, I urge everyone to get more involved by volunteering to help our organization fulfill its mission of supporting the men, women and mission of Westover ARB. We need and appreciate your input. Please contact me or any GCC Officer or Board member to determine how your ideas and abilities can help and at what level you can participate.
Thanks to all of you who have volunteered your time and effort to support our military men and women at Westover ARB.
